Las Cruces is my home. I was born here, went to school here, got my degrees from New Mexico State University, and built a small business doing technology consulting, right here in Las Cruces. I’ve traveled to cities big and small around the country and around the world. I’ve been offered jobs in bigger cities with more nightlife, plentiful transit, and bigger industry. But I have always returned to the beautiful views, towering mountains, and caring people that make Las Cruces home. District 3 has been that home for nearly my entire adult life - we’re home to great parks, great trails, and many of the precious few walkable neighborhoods in town. Our district also has its challenges, but it’s still our place. With good leadership and caring for our neighbors, we can all thrive here.

In 2020, I was asked to serve on the City’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Board, and have gone on to serve on the Redistricting Committee and Transit Advisory Board. I’ve also been active in community organizations like Cruces Creatives. I’ve met many neighbors and learned a lot about city operations, successes, and struggles. Las Cruces is, by many objective measures, well run, and we have been shielded from extremes by sound financial planning and careful work by staff. 

At the same time, growth in my lifetime has been steady, but slow - Las Cruces’s very first escalator was big news, after all! Today, people are realizing our city's potential and we’re expanding more rapidly. Las Cruces isn’t a big city - and shouldn’t be the next NYC - but it has the promise of growth and the freedom to shape our future. 

Realize Las Cruces was a turning point for me - a chance to stop making old mistakes, a chance to allow the City to grow organically to fit the community. I had been watching the proposal take shape over the years, filling out surveys and going to the occasional community meeting. When I showed up to the final City Council meetings to comment, I was overwhelmed with the number of people who also wanted their neighborhoods to be more vibrant, walkable, welcoming places. As a Councilor, I will ensure that we take this chance and make the most of it!

Living in Las Cruces for over 37 years has been quite the journey. I love this town and my neighbors. I think the City has a bright future, and I feel called to run for City Council in District 3 to make sure we get there. I hope you’ll join me as we work together to build a vibrant, safe, and sustainable Las Cruces!

Las Cruces es mi hogar. Nací aquí, asistí las escuelas públicas, me gradué  de NMSU y establecí un negocio de consulta tecnológica.  He viajado a ciudades grandes y chicas en este país y en el mundo. Me han ofrecido empleo  en ciudades con más vida nocturna, abundante transporte público, y mayores industrias pero siempre he vuelto a los paisajes hermosos, cerros imponentes, y vecinos amistosos que hacen a Las Cruces mi hogar. Distrito 3 ha sido ese hogar casi toda mi vida adulta—tenemos agradables parques, abundantes senderos, y muchas de las vecindades donde se puede pasear a pie. Nuestro Distrito  tiene sus problemas, pero con buen liderazgo y cuidado a los intereses de los vecinos, todos podemos tener éxito.   

Desde 2020 he participado en varios comités cívicos, lo que me ha ayudado a comprender mejor el desarrollo económico y transporte público de la ciudad. También he sido activo en otras organizaciones locales como Cruces Creatives. He conocido a muchos vecinos y me he enterado acerca de las operaciones del municipio, sus éxitos y batallas. Viendo la cosa objetivamente, Las Cruces está bien dirigido por el equipo local de burócratas. 

Al mismo tiempo, el desarrollo durante mi vida ha sido regular pero lento.  Ahora, la gente está realizando el potencial de la ciudad y estamos avanzando más rápidamente. Las Cruces no será una metrópoli pero sí tiene la promesa de desarrollar y la libertad de formar nuestro futuro.   

El propósito “Realize Las Cruces” me provocó un gran cambio. Es una oportunidad de no cometer los errores previos, una oportunidad para que la ciudad crezca orgánicamente según  los deseos de la comunidad.  He observado el propósito formarse durante los años, llenando encuestas y atendiendo de vez en cuando juntas de la comunidad.  Cuando asistí a la última sesión del City Council para comentar, fue imponente el número de gentes que también quieren que sus vecindades sean más animadas, más agradables. Como Councilor, aseguraré que tomemos esta oportunidad y tomemos el mayor provecho de ella.   

He vivido en Las Cruces treinta y siete años. Amo a esta ciudad y estimo a mis vecinos. Confío en que la ciudad tiene un futuro prometedor, y como City Counselor en Distrito  3 tengan la seguridad de que llegaremos a ese futuro. Trabajemos juntos para construir un La Cruces vibrante, seguro, y sostenible.
